Welcome to the club...
Ajax Fencing Club provides a safe and enjoyable environment for our athletes. We value: safety, fun, social interaction, sportsmanship, respect, self-discipline, personal development, physical fitness and excellence.
Our mission is to promote, develop and introduce the sport of fencing to the children, teens and adults from Ajax and the Durham region. Fencing is seen as an excellent way to promote fitness to children and adults who do not find team sports fulfilling. The sport is a very disciplined activity based on a high degree of physical fitness and technical skills. We have fun. We have members from Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, Curtis, Clarington, Bowmanville, Port Perry, Uxbridge, Toronto, Scarborough and Markham.
By the Sword...
Ajax Fencing Club focuses on the épée, one of three weapons in the modern sport (the others being foil and sabre). The épée is the descendant of the dueling sword -- points are scored by hitting your opponent with the tip of the weapon.
This is more than just Sword Play...
Modern day fencing is a fun, entertaining, and intense sport, with its traditional and unique historical etiquette. It helps to build fitness, athleticism, discipline, and coordination. It doesn't matter whether you are a beginner or experienced fencer we have programs to suit your inner musketeer.
Fencing involves three essential skills: Footwork, Blade dexterity, and Tactics. These are universal skills that can be learned at any age and which the fencer strives to continually improve upon.
Fencing training is an excellent workout for anyone looking to get back in shape and learn a new skill. Fencing has been called physical chess because it relies more on mental strategy than on physical strength. Many excellent fencers are people who do not enjoy team sports or have never participated in more traditional sporting activities.
Our children’s program accepts students from 8 to 13 years old and our adult classes are for anyone 14 or older. (72 is the oldest to date)
A safe sport...
Fencing is a very safe sport when practiced with the correct equipment and when following the correct conduct and rules. All safety equipment is provided in the Learn to Fence programs, as is instruction on safe conduct and the rules of fencing. More advanced fencers provide their own equipment, which can be purchased through the club.
